The paper itself is called Antemoro and still, today typically dipped by hand.
Antemoro paper which is papyrus-based paper is still commonly produced in Madagascar in centers such as Ambalavao.
The paper needs wild mulberry trees, in Malagasy ”Avoha”
Use them for any kind of writing, drawing, or painting or gift wrapping.
At present, the paper Antemoro is used only for decorative purposes, and not as a support for writing as it was in origin.
Each sheet is authentically made by hand in southern Madagascar, nothing goes at fast pace or without experience. Therefore, the knowledge of paper manufactory and processing is still passed on from older to younger generations.
