RAFFIA MAT

Raffia mats are flat woven by a family of artisans in the countryside near Antananarivo.

This weaving is called “Langara”. The raffia is first assembled in strips before being woven.

This gives a roll whose contour is then crocheted.

The raffia is in its natural color.

Woven raffia mat is the foundation of a craft tradition that stretches in all village floors in Madagascar, unrolled on the ground by a fisherman or a village elder, an invitation to sit.

Great for any rooms in the house, camping, lawn mat, picnic or at the beach.
